Need for Stricter Licensing Requirements

Panelists highlighted the need to tighten criteria for obtaining the skipper’s license, especially boat leader license B emphasizing the importance of a practical component in training and exams. With an increasing number of amateur skippers, it’s vital to ensure they possess adequate skills and knowledge.

Cultural Awareness and Nautical Responsibility

Another key topic was the culture of navigation among recreational sailors. A lack of awareness or disregard for proper nautical practices often leads to preventable accidents. The panel suggested leveraging digital platforms already in use by charter companies to distribute real-time safety alerts and educational materials.

Managing Growing Nautical Traffic

The Adriatic is becoming one of the busiest nautical destinations in Europe. As a result, the discussion stressed the need for enhanced communication systems, and better monitoring of nautical traffic to ensure safety.

Environmental Awareness Training

A collaborative project between Adria Libar and organizations like Green Sail introduce a new course on environmental sustainability.  This initiative will train skippers to adopt eco-friendly practices and reduce the ecological footprint of nautical tourism.

Community Engagement and Awareness Campaigns

Promoting a culture of shared responsibility among all sea users was emphasized as a long-term goal. By educating sailors, tourists, and the broader community about safe and sustainable practices, the Adriatic can continue to thrive as a premier nautical destination.

The panel was a forward-thinking approach. With initiatives like education, technological integration, and a focus on sustainability, the future of sailing in the Adriatic looks not only safer but also more responsible. It requires collaboration among governments, nautical institutions and associations to ensure that the beauty and safety of the Adriatic are preserved for generations to come.
