About Adria Libar
Training seafarers on the Adriatic since 1989
Adria Libar is a Croatian maritime and yacht training centre. For more than three decades we have prepared seafarers, officers and yacht crew for work at sea, from basic safety to command, across five centres from Rijeka to Split.

Our story
Rooted in Šibenik, trusted at sea worldwide
Adria Libar was founded in Šibenik in 1989 by the late Captain Gordan Baraka, who wanted to bring international maritime training standards, set by the STCW Convention, to seafarers in Croatia. It became one of the first maritime training centres in the country, one of the first to gain ISO accreditation and one of the first to train on simulators.
Today we run five centres in Šibenik, Zadar, Rijeka, Split and Zagreb, with more than 100 courses approved by the Croatian Register of Shipping. They range from STCW basic safety and tanker operations to commercial yacht command. STCW certificates are issued by the Croatian Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.
More than 50,000 delegates have trained with us. They now serve on merchant ships, tankers, cruise ships and yachts around the world, and many come back to us when their certificates are due for renewal.

What we stand for
Four things we don’t compromise on
Our aim is a maritime industry where safety, professionalism and care for the sea come first. This is what that means in our classrooms.
Safety first
Courses are built around what keeps a crew safe in a real emergency. Drills with real lifeboats, rafts and fire-fighting gear come before slides.
One standard, five centres
Every course follows the STCW Convention and IMO model courses. A certificate from Zagreb carries the same weight as one from Šibenik.
Cleaner seas
Environmental protection runs through our programmes, from MARPOL awareness to OPRC oil pollution response at all three levels.
Training close to home
Five centres, Zagreb included, so seafarers can renew certificates between contracts without a long trip to the coast.
Our instructors
Taught by people who have done the job
More than 50 instructors, all serving or former seafarers: masters, chief officers, chief engineers and yacht captains. They teach from their own watches, emergencies and port state inspections, so you learn how things work on board, not only what the exam asks.
