Basic training for liquefied gas tanker cargo operations- STCW V/1-2 also known as Gas Tanker Familiarization Course – GTFC is designed to provide officers and crew members with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to operate safely on liquefied gas tankers. This training ensures that personnel are well-prepared to handle the unique challenges associated with transporting liquefied gases, such as LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), and other similar cargoes.

Scope (Target audience) : 
GTFC course has been designed to meet the requirements of STCW section V/1-2-1 and is based on the guidelines of the IMO Model Course 1.04.
Course aims are to educate seafarers to be able to carry out specific duties during loading, unloading and care in transit or handling of cargo on liquefied gas tankers in order to improve the ship safety and protect the environment at the same time. 

Objective : 
After successful completion of the course the seafarers will make a safer and more effective contribution to the operation on a liquefied gas tanker.

  • Liquefied gas tankers 
  • Cargo operations 
  • Physical properties of liquefied gases 
  • Tanker safety culture and safety management 
  • Hazards associated with tanker operations 
  • Hazard controls 
  • Information on a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
  • Function and proper use of gas measuring instruments and similar equipment 
  • Proper use of safety equipment and protective devices 
  • Safe working practices and procedures 
  • First aid with reference to a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
  • Fire safety and fire – fighting operations Emergency procedures including emergency shutdown
  • Effects of pollution on human and marine life 
  • Shipboard procedures to prevent pollution
  • Measures to be taken in the event of spillage
  • Case studies
  • Course review

Prerequisite :

valid Basic safety training certificate

Note to client :
After successful completion of the GTFC training course and examination candidates will receive a Basic Training for Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations course certificate.

  • 2 passport size colored photographs
