Scope (Target audience):
STCW Medical first aid course has been designed to meet the requirements of STCW section VI/4-1 and is based on the guidelines of IMO Model Course 1.14. Course is open to all seafarer who are designated to provide medical first aid on board ship.
Objective:
After successful completion of the course the trainees will be competent to apply immediate first aid in the event of accident or illness on board, identify and treat medical emergencies, treat dislocations, fractures, muscular injuries, neck, head and spinal injuries and control bleeding.

- Immediate action
- First aid kit
- Body structure and functions
- Toxicological hazards aboard ship
- Examination of patient
- Spinal injuries
- Burns, scalds and effects of heat and cold
- Fractures, dislocations and muscular injuries
- Medical care of rescued persons, including distress, hypothermia and cold exposure
- Radio medical advice
- Pharmacology
- Sterilization
- Cardiac arrest, drowning and asphyxia
- Psychological/Psychiatric problems
- Review and assessment
Course Prerequisite:
Basic Safety Training certificate
Note to client:
After successful completion of the course and examination will receive a Medical First Aid certificate.
