Shipboard Safety Officer Course

The Shipboard Safety Officer Course is a comprehensive training program tailored for maritime professionals who are tasked with ensuring safety and compliance on board vessels. This course equips participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage safety programs, conduct inspections, and implement safety protocols in accordance with international maritime regulations and industry standards. Through a combination of theoretical lectures, practical exercises, and case studies, participants learn about various aspects of shipboard safety, including risk assessment, tasks and rights of safety committee, emergency response procedures, and environmental protection measures. Special emphasis is placed on developing leadership and communication skills to effectively coordinate safety efforts and foster a culture of safety awareness among crew members. Upon completion of the course, participants are equipped to serve as competent safety officers, promoting a safe working environment and ensuring the well-being of personnel, the protection of assets, and the preservation of the marine environment throughout their maritime careers.

Scope (Target audience): 
This course is aimed at seafarers currently in a position of Safety Officer or Safety Representative, or those who are about to enter such position and personnel wishing to update their knowledge on shipboard safety management.

Objective: 
This course supports international standards of training for Shipboard Safety Officers based on the STCW Code Tables A-II/2 and A-III/3, IMO Model Course 3.11 and Code of Safe Working Practice for Merchant Seafarers (COSWP 13.3.2.2. and 13.4.2.2.)

Course content : 

  • The tasks of the safety committee
  • The rights and roles of members of the safety committee
  • How to carry our risk assessment and management
  • How to provide necessary advice to resolve safety concerns or problems and to encourage adherence to prevention principles
  • Supervision of safety tasks assigned to crew and other seafarers on board, and passengers where applicable
  • Accident and incident investigation, analysis and making appropriate corrective and preventive recommendations to prevent their recurrence
  • How to obtain relevant information on safe and healthy working environment from the competent authority and the Company
  • Effective means of communication with a multinational crew
  • The commitment required to promote a safe working environment on board

Note to client: 
After successful completion of the course candidates will receive a Shipboard Safety Officer Course certificate.
