Panel Review: “Crewed Charter – Opportunity and Challenge”

The 17th Croatia Nautic Show in Marina Kaštela once again confirmed its status as the platform for dialogue in the nautical sector. One of the standout moments of this year’s program was our panel “Crewed Charter – Opportunity and Challenge”, which brought together influential voices in the charter industry to discuss the evolving demands and opportunities in the crewed yacht segment.

Panel Highlights

The conversation explored essential topics such as education, luxury service expectations, and the strategic branding of Croatia as a premium yachting destination.

  • Sara Douzzan (Noa-Yachting, President of Nautical Tourism Group at HGK) highlighted the need for infrastructure and experiences beyond the basics. “Affluent guests expect more than just the sea and sunshine – we need designer shopping, and luxury amenities tailored to their lifestyle,” she emphasized.
  • Zlatko Vodanović (Adriatic Sailing, Croatia Yachting Association) addressed the importance of consistent quality throughout the year. “We can’t allow mid-season fatigue. If we want repeat guests, we need to welcome them with a smile, always.”
  • Selma Ćubara (Čarter.hr) stressed the value of storytelling and branding. “We offer a premium product but often fail to tell the story behind it. It’s time to recognize our strengths and promote them with intent.”
  • Ivica Matijaca (Adria Libar, hospitality and F&B trainer) offered a view on staffing and mindset. “We look down on others willing to work, yet lack a strong domestic workforce ourselves. Let’s empower the youth and build a professional, year-round crew base.”
  • Vicko Ozretić (CROSCA, captain and association president) underlined gaps in crew training and marina services. “We clean the bays, care for the environment, and serve at the highest level – but we need better support, both in education and marina infrastructure.”

The panel brought together not only experience and expertise, but also passion and a shared desire for growth. From ecological responsibility to workforce readiness and luxury experience design, it was clear that Croatia holds immense potential. The dialogue was constructive, forward-thinking, and marked by a spirit of collaboration.
